Stroke - The Brain Attack Center

The Brain Attack Center at the Florida Hospital Neuroscience Institute annually treats more stroke patients from diagnosis through rehabilitation than any other hospital system in the state. Florida Hospital is a certified Primary Stroke Center in the tri-county Central Florida area, offering advance treatment and access to clinical trials.

Knowing the warning signs of brain attack and calling 911 immediately may, in some cases, help reduce future disability and be life saving.

Fast treatment when stroke symptoms arise is critical to reducing patient disability and increasing chance of survival. The Center's partnership with local emergency medical services (EMS) enables treatment to start even before patients reach the emergency department. At the hospital, emergency department personnel work with neuro staff to rapidly evaluate patients through use of advanced neuro imaging and provide comprehensive care with proven treatment methods.

A dedicated stroke unit maintained at the Center is staffed by an expert medical team that specializes in monitoring and caring for stroke patients. The Center also offers innovative programs such as interventional neuroradiology (INR) and neuromuscular retraining/biofeedback, which can greatly reduce stroke damage.

Extensive neurological rehabilitation services are available to assist in the recovery process, including physical therapy, psychology and speech/swallowing therapy. In some cases, clinical trials are also available to certain stroke patients. Such trials help further extend treatment to patients and provide access to the latest potential advancements. The Neuroscience Institute Clinical Research Division has participated in clinical trials which have offered state-of-the-art interventions for acute ischemic stroke and has presented at the American Heart Association's 2nd Annual International Conference on Women, Heart Disease, and Stroke.
