An estimated one million people in the U.S. live with Parkinson disease, which is a progressive and degenerative neurological disorder that causes loss of control over body movements. The cause of Parkinson's is unknown, and there is presently no cure for the disease. Parkinson disease occurs most frequently in those over 50, but can affect younger adults as well.
The Florida Hospital Neuroscience Institute is one of a limited number of facilities in the region to offer deep brain stimulation (DBS) to help treat the tremor associated with Parkinson's disease. Tremor is one of the most debilitating symptoms of Parkinson's, interfering with basic daily activities such as eating and drinking. For more information on deep brain stimulation for treatment of Parkinson's
